You may have heard of Season Affective Disorder or SAD for short - a medical condition defined by the Mayo Clinic in America as a form of depression that is directly affected by the seasons. But what if it is actually not a form of depression? What if it is actually a natural and normal occurrence that can be harder for those who are prone to stress related conditions like depression and anxiety.
We are energy beings one of some millions of species on this planet who are naturally connected to the ebb and flow of all life on this planet, including the seasons. Last week I was on a flight from Lanzarote. There were a number of children on the flight, but one caught my eye or should I say ear. The gorgeous little girl would burst into wails of pain from time to time from not long after take-off, and each time she would cry I would be on the verge of getting up when she would stop, so I would tell myself that she had managed to clear the pain in her ears. I had also put in earbuds and was listening to music so I honestly hadn’t heard the crying for a while. At one point I took out my earbuds and could hear that the poor little mite was in distress. I took a deep breath and up I got. I went over to the parents and quickly explained that there were reflexology points on the han d that could bring some relief to their exhausted and pained daughter. They were eager to know and apply the points so I demonstrated on my hand and dad quickly applied the technique to his daughter. It took about 30 seconds for the points to take effect. The tears stopped, but the little one was still fighting her very obvious exhaustion so as dad kept pushing points on the hands, I began to gently rub the forehead just around the 3rd eye. I’d say in less than three minutes their little daughter was fast asleep in her dads arms and both parents were extremely grateful. Other parents in the vicinity asked me what I had just done to bring calm to the little girl and her family so I showed them. Now I am
going to show you. Share this technique so others can have relief on flights.
Technique for relieving blocked and sore ears.
1) Firstly open out your fingers.
2) Next pinch the web-like skin between the little finger and the ring finger. DO this for about 10-20 seconds or longer if it is sore. In Reflexology this is the point that relates to the outer ear.
3) Move on to pinch between the ring finger and the middle finger. I tend to spend the most time pinching between these two fingers as it brings the most relief as this point relates to the middle ear and this is where we can get pain or clog up in the Eustachian tube. When I get ear ache this is the point that I generally pinch.
4)Then I pinch between the middle finger and the first or index finger. This point relates to the inner ear and is also very effective when dealing with blocked and sore ears. If when you are pinching between the fingers you find one that is more tender than the others, go back and pinch this one some more! The pain is an indication of where you are having difficulty so working the point on the fingers works the issue in the corresponding part of the ear.
Do this techniques on both hands. I tend to do this throughout the flight and it does bring me much relief. If you are someone who tends to suffer from blocked sinuses this techniques will also help bring you some relief. For sinus sufferers I would also add another technique.
That is to squeeze along all your fingers from the tip of the finger to the base as if you were pushing toothpaste from the bottom of a tube to the top. Do this exercise a few times a day and you should begin to feel your sinus cavities empty a little. Might I add here that 90% of the time sinus issues are directly related to diet and more specifically foods that are inflaming your mucus membrane. It's that time of year again when the dreaded cold and flu virus are flying around the place rapidly infecting everyone that happens to innocently get in its way. Or do we innocently get in its way. Consider this train of thought. Christmas and the season of eat, drink and be merry has left us more susceptible to catching the cold and flu. Why? Well basically because we are after at least two weeks of eating foods that we wouldn't normally eat, and drinking more drinks that we would not normally have either. Consider your normal week, outside of Christmas and parties. Most of us would not drink fizzy drinks, or that much alcohol. But at Christmas we could be having these drinks close on every day. We see Christmas as treat time, so off we go and treat ourselves and all around us. I hear things like 'It's only for two weeks'! Yes it is only for two weeks. But consider this, for those two weeks you have over eaten on rich and sugary foods. You have increased your intake of sugary drinks. You have probably also upped your intake of wheat and dairy based products like chocolate and Christmas Cake!!! We all do. But just like any other aspect of life, this possibly over 200% increase in sugar products will overload your system and break down you immune system leaving you totally open and welcoming to the dreaded virus. Another thing that can happen is with all the late nights and high sugar intake our blood/brain chemistry gets knocked out. Christmas is a great time for triggering old emotional wounds from the past. Unresolved memories will come flooding up and again these will add to the lowering of the immune system. So if you tick some of the points above then getting a cold or flu is actually quite natural.
The cold and flu are natural detoxifiers.
The cold and flu is basically your bodies way of cleansing from all the sugar that it can't cope with. It is our way of clearing out the toxins, like a natural detox plan. Once we get a cold or flu I find that we can either treat it and it will last 5-7 days or allow it flow on through us and it will also take 5-7 days. If we have really allowed ourselves to get run down then it can take a lot longer than 5-7 days to clear. Quite often people get antibiotics and these can in some cases actually prolong a virus and just break down your immune system even further.
So what can you do?
There are many different views on what to do when you get a good viral overload in your system. I am going to share my experience on dealing with viruses from a Kinesiology standpoint. First thing is stay away from other humans as much as you can. Drink plenty of fluids and sleep. Sleep is the bodies natural way of rebooting and recharging itself. For children I recommend taking Ionic or colloidal Silver. It comes in liquid form and tends to work will with viruses. Zinc and vitamin C would also be good to boost the immune system. Adults could also take Silver, just take more of it. Sometimes adults can take both Silver and NAC, an amino acid that is also very good for helping your body deal with viruses. The NAC will need zinc for it to work best, so again adults should take zinc and it won't hurt to take some vitamin C.

I woke early this morning and as I was pondering life it dawned on me that we were fast approaching the winter solstice. Immediately I began to think of the turning sun. I love this idea of beginning to turn away from the darkness into the light again. It just fills my entire being with hope and joy. I feel energized and grateful that I get another chance to grow in the light.
Our Celtic ancestors celebrated this time of turning sun with great reverence and joy. They were making it through another winter and they wanted the sun to know how much they wanted and needed it to shine strong and warm again.
Winter solstice is celebrated around the 21st December. I’m glad that today I have become aware of the solstice approaching because now I can take some time to be present to the sun. I can honour the darkness. I always feel I only truly see the power of the light when it is really dark.
Take that into my life and I have a great challenge put to me, we have a great challenge put to us all. The challenge is to see the light even in our darkest and hardest days. Light is truly powerful. It is transformational. Even just thinking of the phrase “faster than the speed of light” conjures up images of an amazing energy. Light is an amazing energy, one we all need and for many, many reasons.
So my invitation to me and you at this time as we approach the time of the turning sun, is to stop and breath and celebrate how the light shines through even the darkest of nights. Acknowledge that we need the sun and the light and hope it brings to us and give thanks for it. I also give thanks for the darkness, because without the darkness I would take the light for granted.
We only get what we eat!
Our Small Intestine has a very important job and that is to absorb all the nutrients from our digested food. It really depends on the quality of the food and the type of food that we eat, then, as to how our immune system will be. The challenge is to eat a good selection of fruit, veg, protein and healthy fats most of the time. Sounds easy! On a day to day basis most of us do this and we generally are healthy and fit. Then something happens and off we go into a spiral of colds and viruses or worse. Generally I tend to find that I can pin point the time this happens in my own life and the lives of my clients. People can tend to blame getting sick on external factors like the job they have, or others being sick around them. But how come we don't get sick some days and do get sick other days? How come 90-95% of the time we don't catch the cold or flu that is making its way round our family and work place? Those days our immune system is not compromised.
What compromises the immune system?
We do! Well a combination of factors that we allow to come together without realising we have done this. Here's an example. I tend to find that I am wheat and gluten intolerant. Generally I do not eat bread of any form. I also do not take dairy produce, if I can avoid it, because I know when I do I have immediate cramping and bloating and all matter of dis-ease in my gut. I also tend to stay away from sugar, well, processed sugar.
Here's another thing. I have a bit of a weakness for sugar (most of us do) and can have occasions where I binge on it. They do not happen often but when they do, I tend to get a cold! The word to take on board here is 'binge'. Should I be in a situation where I eat foods that contain grains, dairy and processed sugars, I will find that I am under the weather for days after and can sometimes catch a cold or flu. But its not that I catch anything. It is more that my immune system is down and I am not able to fight off the virus as well as I would should I have stayed away from the above foods. My system needs to cleanse and it will do this by clearing out and that is what a cold or flu is, a clearing of the immune system.
Normally I am a positive person. I think positive thoughts and feel positive and successful in my day and life. However there are days when I can find myself getting cranky or annoyed easily. We are thinking beings and most of our thinking is subconscious and quite often our subconscious thoughts can be negative. We can put ourselves down or be hard on ourselves. We can be our greatest critic instead of our biggest fan. Sound familiar. Every time we think negatively about our selves or get angry we are weakening our immune system.
Add this into the mix of what is being eaten and drank and our poor immune system hasn't much hope.
In my case it would be safe to say that for the most part, I am aware of what can weaken my system and I generally avoid creating situations where this can happen.
I also know that I can get over stressed if I don't take time to rest and exercise. Lately I have been busy writing my book: Tap Into Success. I have also had clients coming to me and I am teaching full time in school. So guess what suffered? My daily exercise of either walking or swimming. I also was away from home and found myself eating gluten free sweet things, drinking more alcohol than I normally would and guess what happened? Yes put all these factors together and hey presto, my immune system was compromised and I finally fell to the barrage of viruses being sneezed around my classroom.
Had I just had one of the changes above happen I probably would have managed to rebalance easily. But I had too many stressors at the one time my immune system weakened and I got sick.
Now this wouldn't happen to you. But just in case it did! With Christmas coming it might be a good idea to:
Did you know how important your mind is in actually having and maintaining your health and wellbeing?
Turns out that it is all in our mind. I remember as a child being told 'mind over matter'. This phrase was put to me when I would say those dreaded 'I can't do it' words. I am sure you can think of times when you uttered those words out load or inside as you were faced with what you felt was an insurmountable challenge. Sometimes you may well have been proven right. Sometimes you may well have been proven wrong. Either way, right or wrong, your brain would have formed a belief based on your experience and the similar experiences you had previous to this one. That's how we work.
In later life I have come to see these words in another way. Mind over Matter. Quantum Physics tells us that we are all made of Atomic Matter. We are all amazing fields of life force vibrational energy, interconnected with the Universal Life Force Energy. It has been scientifically proven that our mind plays a key role in how this matter will and does function. The Universal Law of Attraction is eagerly waiting to gift us with our desires. Our desires come from our thoughts and beliefs. Most of the time we are not aware of what those desires are because for the most part these thoughts and beliefs are subconscious. So whatever is in our mind, conscious or subconscious, we are sending out into the universe and the universe will be gifting back to us. This can lead us to think that we are doomed. Especially when we are only 85% of the time our thinking is subconscious. You might wonder how this can be. I did too at first. But when you look over your day at all the things you do automatically, like brush your teeth or drive the car, you can see how most of our thinking is subconscious.
Here's the thing. All of these subconscious automatic actions were once conscious new actions that we had to learn. Like learning to walk when we were infants. That was a very long process of going from lying on a floor, to rolling over, to eventually crawling and then finally getting to a standing position. Then we gradually managed to put one foot in front of the other and, after falling many times, stumble across the floor. Now we walk without thinking about it. Walking has become a subconscious automatic action. This provides us with a solution.
The secret in all of this is to make our current conscious thoughts positive and success orientated. Then to keep thinking these thoughts. Eventually these conscious thoughts will become automatic subconscious thoughts. Gradually they will replace the more negative thinking patterns we have and hey presto, we will be attracting opportunities to be successful and positive in our lives. The cells in our bodies will be healthier and happier too.
So it really is a case of MIND OVER MATTER. Use your mind to help your energy matter to vibrate at its highest, optimal vibrational frequency. Simply put - think positive. You cannot think positive and feel negative. Positive thoughts create positive feelings which create positive vibrational frequencies in our cells which creates good health.
Mind Over Matter works for our optimal health and wellbeing. Try it and see. If I don't mind, it won't matter, regardless of the situation. If I do mind, it will matter. Make sure that what you allow to occupy your mind is worth your time and health.

Did you know that it has been scientifically proven that activities like gardening are good for you.
Last week I found a window in the weather, and my calendar, to get out into the garden. Some herbs needed a little tender care and the sunflowers had well passed blooming thanks to our recent visits from storms Ophelia and Brian. I had old growth from last year to pull up, some plants I wanted to rearrange and overgrown areas to claim back. The sun was shining for most of the time, and while it was cold I wrapped up and set to my work.
Gardening helps to ground us. I find that I can become so relaxed when gardening that I gain perspective. I seem to be able to look back over the previous weeks and see solutions to problems. The solutions seem to come instantly. I get a clear sense of what I need to do or not to do. I also find i become grateful for all the little things that I have taken for granted. So gardening offers a space to check in to my own thoughts and feelings and just let it all sort itself out. Every idea and answer to any questions just seems to come to me easily. Right now I find myself wondering why I don't garden more often. Doesn't have to be gardening. Could be walking in nature. A good walk by the sea. Ever start walking at one end of the beach and by the time you get to the other side all the tension that was there when you started your walk has just disappeared somehow. It's as if the sea has some magical powers that just allow it to wash through our energy being and clear away cobwebs.
Playing a musical instrument, going out and taking pictures, all things I love to do, and all times I just seem to feel more connected to my deeper self. My spiritual or soulful self. In modern language I suppose it would be called mindfulness. Being present in the moment. When I am fully present I seem to gain insight and awareness and loose more stressful thoughts easier. What about you? Do you have ways that calm mind and restore you spirit? Are you able to take this space often or does it only happen now and again. Like me do you find yourself wishing you had more time to feel like this?
Why not look at your next week and pencil in your soul time. The time when you will take some time to get lost in simple tasks that will feed your soul and calm your mind. Generally these times cost little or nothing, like gardening or walking, or swimming, painting, listening to or playing music. Whatever works for you, do it and enjoy it.

Remember that an out of control garden takes too much energy, too many things going on and no room for real insight or production. So choose well, and don't over crowd your garden. Allow a few seeds of positive thoughts and actions the space to grow and develop, put some colour in there and, in a few months, marvel at the great work you have done and continue to do. A plant starts with one seed being sown. Positive thinking starts with one thought being sown.

I was browsing through Face Book, as one does and came across this article that helps give some validity to the whole area of Muscle Response Testing, or as I just call it Muscle Testing. Muscle Testing is basically how Kinesiologists and other therapies can check if something can weaken your muscle and thus your body or indeed strengthen it.
If you have had previous experience of Kinesiology then you know that during a typical session the Practitioner will use what is known as a 'Strong Indicator Muscle' (SIM) to check for example of certain foods are overloading and thus weakening your system. Equally if for some reason you have a Weak Indicator Muscle (WIM) a muscle that when checked cannot hold a small amount of pressure, then the Kinesiologist can check to see what would strengthen it.
This system can be used for checking is particular thinking patterns you have are weakening your system, or if past traumas are having an adverse impact on you. I suppose this system of testing can be used for almost all areas of our lives. What I find fascinating is that it can also find the fix and lock that fix into the body.

Saturday can be good day to reflect on the mountains we climbed this week. Could you imagine climbing the one in this photo in the Grand Canyon? I believe that we climb mountains like this everyday. It could be a work challenge, or a challenge to overcome an addiction. I sometimes think the biggest mountains in life are to change our sub-conscious thinking patterns. The thoughts and beliefs that are creating our reality. Mostly these thoughts and beliefs limit our ability to fly up the mountain or to not to have to climb so many mountains. Like believing that I can't read. I am dyslexic. I don't like reading, can't read for long periods of time and will avoid reading at all costs. I caught myself saying this the other day and for the first time made a conscious decision to do some EFT on these statements and to change the thoughts to I can read and I enjoy reading and I can concentrate for long periods of time. The quickest way to climb the mountain when it comes to changing these subconscious thinking patterns is Energy Psychology, Energy healing. I tapped on the above statements about four days ago. Thought nothing more about it. Woke very early two nights ago and decided to read something on Matrix Re-imprinting online. I read the whole latest magazine in one visit. Didn't have to leave it because I was head tired. I was delighted with myself. So want to climb some mountains in your life, try EFT.
So here's a thought for us all on this snowy Friday morning. I am sitting here listening to yet another great talk from the late Wayne Dwyer about the words I Am. He talks about how in the Christian writings and scriptures these two words were used in the story of Moses to denote God. Wayne goes on to talk about how we then use these words possibly on a daily basis - I am feeling good, or I am angry... We are told that we are created in the image and likeness of God. Not in our physical make-up, but rather in our spiritual make-up, or what is the divine essence of our being. But we can't separate the spirit from the flesh. I take the words Human and Being to illustrate this. The word human denotes our physical body, and systems, our senses, etc. The word Being is our spiritual or soulful side and there are many words for this. I see our being as our God space. If I can get to my God space each day, I tend to operate much better as a physical being. The challenge for me daily is to keep both my human and being parts interconnected. I believe that we are Spiritual/Soulful beings on a human journey.
So then let me take this a little further. If I am God's Energy on this earth, then As I Am - God Is. So every word I say, every action I make is me manifesting God's love on this earth in this human form. Makes me think seriously about what I say and do. I believe God is love, God is kindness.... So I ask myself the question - am I loving in all that I do and say and think? That's a sobering thought wouldn't you say! I must now point out that I am not talking about a God tied up in Religion here. I am not talking about going to a Church.... I am talking about a spiritual energy that is God. I could use the words Divine Energy to describe what I am calling God in this post. Now I am getting caught up in words a little. But what I am trying to say is I am the opportunity for love, life, light and healing on this earth, am I allowing the Divine to work in and through me?
The other part of this is that As God Is - I Am. So if I truly believe that God is love and light and kindness then I also need to know and believe that I too am love, and light and kindness. Do I accept this and allow myself to be love and accept that I am love? Or do I continually out myself down and be hard on myself.....
The challenge is to take time to stop fighting with myself and my world. To take a deep breath or two and to allow myself to just sit with the thought that as God Is - I Am and As I Am - God Is and allow this amazing energy to flow through your body. You and I are Divine Healing Energy and is our job to feel it and allow it to flow in, around and through us. Dare to be this entry and focus on all that is good and kind and light and love!! Any time you find yourself falling back into self criticism or judgement or darker and heavier ways, just stop, take a breath and connect to your soul space where the Divine that is you lives in you.
